Assault on Christianity

By Mark Pickup

You are seeing a direct frontal assault at the root of Christianity: The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Canadian producer of Titanic film fame is scheduled to have a New York press conference on February 26th. Apparently he's going to present 3 coffins: Jesus, Mary Magdalene and the Virgin Mary. He says he has DNA evidence! He's even made a 90-minute documentary. He's the latest in a long line of sceptics determined to prove that Jesus did not rise from the dead. They can not face the implications of the truth, so they embrace a lie.

Die for a lie?

My immediate thought with James Cameron's "evidence" has the problem due to the Disciples who saw the resurrected Christ. They saw him, touched him, and ate with him. They preached the Gospel to a hostile culture and many went to excruciating, painful deaths rather than renounce the hope they had in the physically resurrected Jesus. Think about it: a person may willingly die for the sake of a lie they mistakenly believe is the truth - but nobody will knowingly and willingly endure terrible deaths for a lie they know is a lie.

Andrew, Bartholomew, Philip and Simon were beaten and crucified. Matthew and Thomas were speared, James, son of Zebedee - beheaded, James, son of Alpheus, stoned to death. Judas (not Iscariot) stoned to death and Peter was crucified upside down. Only John died of old age, exiled in Patmos. Now if the resurrection of Jesus was just a story they made up, don't you think at some point one of the disciples would have confessed the concocted lie in order to avoid such a death? But they did not. They were willing to endure terrible torture and death for the truth. It's something James Cameron does not understand.

Skilfully presented

He has used his considerable cinematography skills to present a lie (he knows its a lie) in a direct frontal assault on Christianity and the faith of millions.

He knows he is presenting a lie as truth. Prominent Jerusalem archaeologist Amos Kloner, who officially oversaw the work at the tomb, dismissed the claims of Cameron. He reported told the Jerusalem Post ``It makes a great story for a TV film. But it's impossible. It's nonsense.'' Where did James Cameron get the DNA evidence he claims to have? The shroud of Turin?

No, do not let James Cameron make you question your Christian faith. He is presenting nonsense, a lie, for the sake of fame and fortune.
